Closed for Renos: June 17th. Re-Opening June 21st @ 5PM

The Rod and Gun will be closed for renovations from Monday morning until Friday afternoon- But we will re-open Friday night, starting at 5PM, kicking off our newly renovated interior with The Shawn Carle Band

The Gun needs some TLC. We're going to be ripping up some manky carpet and flooring, laying new, fresh flooring, re-upholstering, painting, and we're even going to remove that one bladeless ceiling fan that has been driving us insane. "Why a ceiling fan with no blades?", was the question we asked ourselves. The answer was, "Time for a major cleaning and an overhaul."

Please re-join us Friday the 21st at 5:00PM

Hummer Is Back! Fri the 14th and Sat the 15th of June!

Another rad score for the Rod and Gun's impressive roster.

At 10PM Friday and Saturday nights, Hummer's goals are going to be simple: Make you dance, make you have fun and make you come back, thirsty for more. (Personally, two nights in a row of revelry and bawdy delights sounds pretty intense, but I know that there are tons of people out there who push their lives, Full-Throttle-style, to the extreme maximum. These people are genrally more interesting than myself, although they've probably got more elevated liver enzymes.) Hummer plays a wide range of songs from poplar artists such as Prince, Michael Jackson, Jason Mraz, Sublime, RATM and everything in between. Hummer's live performance is full of energy, musicianship, spontaneity and even a little laughter.

Sunday Showcase: A Jam Hosted by the Boney Finger Band - June 16th

Something a little different. Provocative. Interesting. Participatory.

On the 1st and 3rd Sundays of every month, the Rod and Gun is going to try to both knock your socks off with audible authenticity as well as provide Idol-esque opportunities for you to bring your musical mustard.

We're continuing our efforts to keep you entertained with juicy live music.  We're going to do this in the format of a Sunday Showcase Jam, a free-form context where local talent has an opportunity to bring their band members together to really shine. This forum will allow both scheduled and spontaneous musicians to play, in a relaxed atmosphere at the Rod and Gun. We're looking for local talent who can deliver serious musicianship and presence. We're also looking for bands and individuals who just want to have a good time.  As a spectator, you couldn't hope for more variety or intrigue.

The Shawn Carle Band: Friday the 21st. Train-Stopping Talent.

From the start, Shawn Carles musical career was destined to unfold like a troubadours tale; No meteoric rise, no airport arrests, no headlines, yet no less legendary. Carles journey into the hearts of those who love his music began in the early eighties.

The obligatory high school talent shows, house party beer bands and UI adventures hallmarked the young Lynn Valley writer's youth. Carle fought hard for chances to showcase himself in an effort to not only master the art of writing a great song, but also refine a natural talent to entertain.

Out of high school, and attending Langara College as an aspiring actor, Carle battled for a breath as the tides of simple survival swirled in. Unhappy and full of youthful stupidity, Shawn dropped out of school and soon floundered. Following in the footsteps of local heroes and influences like Geoff Gibbons And Silverlode, Carle began the first of several love/hate relationships with the fabled North Shores Lonsdale Avenue . Playing rooms like The San Francisco Pizza Department, The Vault and North side Jonnys he began to cement a following of peers. Equally displaced and in need of a good time, the crowd was faithful and fitful. Just as things moved dangerously close to something more than just a great time, The Lower Lonsdale scene collapsed.

Andrew Wright is Never Wrong: 28th and 29th

It's all about the freshness and flavor.

Loaded with fresh tunes and a new rhythm section, the Andrew Wright Band is set to play the Rod and Gun on Friday and Saturday. Showcasing a mix of originals and covers, the night will be full of blues-rock booty shakin' with a hint of country. When the covers come out expect to hear everything from the Beatles and The Doors to ZZ Top and Lynyrd Skynyrd. Expect to be entertained. The Andrew Wright Band is never wrong, and always satisfies.

Andrew Wright is a singer songwriter who recently relocated to Victoria, BC from Winnipeg, Mb to start his career. Andrew made the bold leap in January of 2012 and has not looked back since.

Born into a very musical family first memories included singing songs with his mom; he started writing songs, and playing guitar seriously from the age of 14. Andrew’s parents were major influences in his music talents and he credits them for all of his accomplishments.

"My Mom was the school music teacher, and my Dad is a classically trained guitarist. I was hesitant to learn guitar at first, but I quickly realized that if you play guitar the girls will listen. [Andrew laughs]"
