Anything can happen at the Rod and Gun's Thursday night karaoke. The night is sometimes inspiring, sometimes hilarious, and sometimes, the person singing onstage will completely knock your socks off. Why don't you stop by this Thursday and have a cold one, some delicious fare from our new menu and a listen? Or better yet, get up there and destroy that crowd with "Paradise City" by Guns and Roses. You'll be glad you did.
By combining masterful set lists, adrenaline, precision dynamics, and a little mischief, you get Satellite Park. Fresh out of Trace Element, Charlie's Broken .22 and Autopilot, Satellite Park fused together in January 2009. Although a young band, Satellite Park's members have shared the stage with such acts as The Presidents of the U.S.A., and Sweeney Todd. Also, Satellite Park had the honour to have played at the Olympic Torch Relay when it passed through Lake Cowichan in 2009. Having played the Island circuit steady the last 7 years, each member is a master of their craft and their brilliance sparks the band's chemical combination onstage.
It was summer 2012. Chris Matheson was vacationing in England, taking some time off from the Vancouver Island music scene. Left behind was the last five years of his life playing in a line up that included some of the islands most sought after musicians. One fateful morning in July Chris received a request to put together a band for cruise ship traveling from Florida to the Bahamas . By the end of that day the Liberty Hounds were born. On board were drummer Greg Hartford and singer, guitar slinger Richy Getson. Rounding out the original line up was bassist and singer Lance Lapointe. Within a week the quartette were flying from opposite sides of the world to meet up in Orlando Florida to rock out for months to come aboard the fantastic Monarch of the seas. Over the next year the hounds went through a couple of changes and they would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr. Lance Lapointe and Mr. Earl Gibson for slapping the bass with them. They truly believe that they wouldn’t be here without either of them. The boys would also like to take this opportunity to introduce the newest hound Mr. Zach Davis on da bass and awesome effects rack !!
This Friday and Saturday, do yourself a favor. This is an amazing DJ that has to be heard to be believed. Just show up and check out DJ High Priority. Seriously. I listened to "Get Up on Your Feet" at http://www.dj.beatport.com/highpriority like twice. Really really good stuff that. Come down to the Rod and Gun. It's been a while. You deserve a night off. You deserve to bust moves. You deserve to flopsweat like a banshee, eat some delicious snacks and quaff some cold bevvies. Let's do it. I'm going. That's all there is to it. I'm hungry and I want to listen to some dubstep while drinking. I'll see you there.
On almost every second (and sometimes 4th) Saturday, from 2-6PM, the Rod and Gun is going to try to both knock your socks off with audible authenticity as well as provide you with opportunities for you to bring your musical mustard.
We're continuing our efforts to keep you entertained with juicy live music. We're going to do this in the format of a Saturday Showcase Jam, a free-form context where local talent has an opportunity to bring their band members together to really shine. This forum will allow both scheduled and spontaneous musicians to play, in a relaxed atmosphere at the Rod and Gun. We're looking for local talent who can deliver serious musicianship and presence. We're also looking for bands and individuals who just want to have a good time. As a spectator, you couldn't hope for more variety or intrigue.
A music set is a journey. Songs and sounds that connect the crowd to an experience or to a moment in their lives. They should be something special, something memorable. David Mumford is foremost a DJ, he has engulfed himself in the lifestyle pulling inspiration from underground raves; huge electronic festivals, and his hometown club where he currently holds a three year residency. He carefully constructs his sets to both appeal to and inspire the people he plays for. His vast knowledge of music and invaluable experience playing in small town clubs enables David to flow seamlessly between genres while maintaining a unique and beautiful style that is uplifting and inspiring. David was born and raised in Nanaimo BC, a small town on the west coast of Canada. He brings this west coast attitude into his sets and song selection, often triggering the sense of being on a warm sandy beach dancing under the stars. Each set he plays reconfirms his love for music, Djing and of course the people he plays for. Throughout his growing career, David has had the opportunity and privilege to Dj alongside some of the most talented Dj’s and producers in the industry, some of which include Lazy Rich, Mat The Alien, Mord Fustang, LongWalkShortDock, Spencer & Hill, Joe Garston, and Mt. Eden. At the age of 19, he also hatched his own record label DirtyTalk Records. Again following his west coast roots, David has created a label that envelops a lifestyle of sun, surf, and sandy beaches. Now, three years later, the label continues to expand holding record deals with artists around the world.
